Project- Interior Decoration: The Nursery

Quote: “I'm passionately involved in life: I love its change, its color, its movement. To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, to have houses, music, paintings - it's all a miracle.”- Arthur Rubinstein

We are surrounded by beautiful colors in our life. It’s all around us. Maybe something that some of us take for granted but we do use them in casual conversations daily. I feel blue, I am green with envy or even I’m in a pink state of mind. Whatever the case is we always have color to either brighten up our day or do the total opposite. Do you ever get the feeling of unease in a certain place and feel better in another? I used to think I was a moody person till I started educating myself on colors and their effects.
The subject was of interest since I was about to start designing and decorating our home. I wanted to do it myself so I had a lot of learning to do in the process. There were many projects around the house but the closest to my heart was the nursery.
My first project was The Nursery (Ahmed’s Room)
The requirements
I wanted to create a room that would last for years, something that I wouldn’t personally get bored of in 3 months or so =). I also wanted to create a place that was neutral (meaning that it would fit both genders boys and girls)
I also wanted to create a very serene environment where relaxation is induced by walking into the room
I wanted a colorful theme with no animation, no cartoons, no characters involved.
Scope of work
I did a lot of reading trying to understand colors and their effects on our moods. I also thoroughly covered the effect of colors on infants and babies. Babies should be exposed to colors to certain degrees to stimulate their brains. Interesting isn’t it?
The Strategy
There are many things to keep in mind before you even start choosing the colors and they include the color of the furniture, the flooring, the fabrics etc. First things first- deciding on a scheme and from my reading there are 3 ways of doing it.
1-A monochromatic scheme (one color, but in many shades and different hues, from dark to light), is harmonious and flows well.
2-An analogous scheme (using the adjacent colors on the color wheel), gives you the opportunity for more exciting highlights.
3-A complementary scheme (using the colors opposite each other on the color wheel) allows more flexibility for accent and highlight colors, but must be carefully managed so it’s not jarring.
I chose the room closest to mine to turn into a nursery. Chose my focal point wall and got all the color cards from Jotun. I had a tough time deciding on one color so I ended up choosing six! =)
I chose a pastel palette that included yellow, orange, blue, green, pink and purple. When I discussed the idea with anyone, they called me insane and a person without a taste. Like that made any difference to me. I went ahead and got the color gallons. I contacted the painter to start painting and it took me like for ever to actually make him understand what I wanted. I had to then paint a sample from my PC and print it out for him. Three walls were to be covered by two colors and the fourth wall with a vertical line of each of the six colors. The painting took about 2 days to complete and voila a piece of art was created.
Everyone who came in the room complimented me endlessly. What a great achievement!

What’s the point(e) of ballet?

Quote: “If ballet were easy, they'd call it football”

After exhausting myself for hours and hours every week at home, work and social life, I deserved a little break. There is no better break than spending a beautiful evening in the presence of the world’s best. It had been my first time ever. I’ve never had the chance to actually attend one. I had been hesitant at first cuz I would end up going alone but it didn’t matter then. I needed to be on my own- for a few hours at least. Whenever I told anyone I was really looking forward for that evening, I got all sorts of silly looks. They said it was boring and stiff. I didn’t let that stop me. I arrived- took my seat at the third row just in front of stage. It wasn’t long till the magic begun.
Everything was perfect- the lights, the decoration, the costumes, the music, and the moves. Oh the moves you people! Every move was graceful, properly planned, and elegant. The take the word beauty and elegance to a higher standard.
It felt as it they were floating on stage with the perfect notes playing. They were in control of every aspect. It took a lot of control and strength performing the moves. I remember gasping at some point realizing how hard it must be doing what they do. They captured my heart. That was a night I’d remember for life. My first ballet.
I was talking to banoota about it- overly excited about the fact that we had the chance to go. I was glad to know that it was one of the best ballet’s she’d ever been to (she an expert). For a moment there I regretted not going for ballet classes and settling for Karate. Coming to think about it now when writing this entry- I think I like the fact that I took karate- I believe it helped shape up my personality in certain ways. Yes sure ballet is more elegant, more graceful, and more beautiful- talk to my parents! Lol.. I am definitely enrolling my daughter.
I haven’t been sleeping well in the past few days- my baby was sick. He was very warm to the touch- scary. I’ve never taken care of anything before except for my cats and they rarely got fevers. It felt like he was freshly baked out of an oven. I rushed him to the hospital and got him medicated. It took two days to get the fever down. Elhamdelilah he’s alright now. Oh yeah by the way I shaved his head off. Lol He looks cute. A mini version of mini me from Austin Powers! =)
I’m losing my technical touches! I used to design a whole website in 3 hours. Yesterday I designed one for my daddy’s business. It took me 5 hours! I was so annoyed with myself. Being in a management position for this long really does strip you away from certain areas you were an expert at. I love being a manager I just hate the fact that I am losing other skills on the side. I need to do something about it.
{ Breathtaking
you certainly carry your nickname in your personality. I haven’t met many who are candid and honest about their feelings. It’s a great change from what I am used to. Thank you for sharing the truth. I will reply soon. Sorry for taking too long. Lots of love. }
